Janda Baik is a nature resort destination about 45km away from Kuala Lumpur, located near Bentong and Raub. Situated among the hills and mountains of the Titiwangsa Range in Pahang, it lies below Genting Highlands, another popular tourist attraction, but far more secluded and peaceful. Being located near KL city with easy access using the Karak Highway, Janda Baik has grown in popularity among visitors seeking a quick escape into cooling weather and natural surroundings from urban heat and activity. Over the years, numerous hotels and resorts have opened over the landscape, providing luxury and budget accommodation for a weekend holiday.

The name 'Janda Baik' comes from a story among the original inhabitants of the land, the Temuan tribe Orang Asli (Aborigines) - you won't see many of them around, having been edged out by farms and plantations to small, rural settlements. The legend tells the tale of a split Orang Asli couple reconciling, hence 'Janda' which means 'Divorcee', and 'Baik' for 'good'. It was only in 1932 that Janda Baik was explored and developed by local planters into an agricultural village, but only really became popular among visitors from year 2000 onwards. Today, an abundance of clear rivers flow through its lush valleys, cascading down mountain slopes into lakes, ponds and farms of many homesteads. With a cooling climate and median elevation betwen 500 and 600 meters, it's an ideal spot for a relaxing holiday or enjoying nature activities, the lush rainforest surroundings a repository for fascinating wildlife to explore and discover. |
